Terry and I have visited Louisville before, way back in 1989. At that time, we found a wonderful dessert shop where they had many different kinds of pie, cake, and ice cream. So on this trip, we looked for that place again, and we found it:

Terry and Kris and I went there for lunch and pie. It was just as good as we remembered it.
We didn't do much except sit around and visit for the rest of the afternoon. Later, Terry and I drove into downtown Louisville for a carriage tour:
The horse's name was Jesse, and the dog's name was Gus... and I never did get the guide's name. Shame on me.
One of the things the guide showed us was the Louisville Slugger Museum:
...complete with the mother of all Sluggers:
He also pointed out this skyscraper (the one on the right):
...which he identified as the Aegon Center, the tallest building in Kentucky. He told us that the dome on the top has no purpose in life other than to make the building taller than the National City building (the one on the left), so that the Aegon Center would be the tallest building in Kentucky. "Bragging rights," was how the guide put it. I'm not sure if that story's true, but if it isn't, it oughta be.
Another thing that I noticed on the tour, and then started noticing all over town, was several fancifully painted horses, like this one:
I later found out that those horses are part of something called Gallopalooza, a series of artist-decorated horse sculptures in celebration of the Kentucky Derby.
When our carriage ride was over, we saw several other carriages waiting for passengers, including this Cinderella carriage:
We then drove back and picked up Kris and Terrie, and went to dinner at Claudia Sanders' Dinner House, in Shelbyville, several miles east of Louisville:
This is an authentic Southern restaurant, with all you can eat fried chicken, country ham, etc. And with every meal, they bring out EIGHT side dishes: mac and cheese, fried tomatoes, green beans, eggplant stuffing, corn pudding, fried apples, creamed spinach and mashed potatoes. Again, way too much food, and all of it good.
By the way, you may not know who Claudia Sanders is, but perhaps you've heard of her husband, the Colonel. Yes, THAT Colonel:

After dinner, we took Kris and Terrie home, visited for a while, and went back to the motel.
