Back to El Fuerte

In the morning, we went to visit a local school, the same one I passed on my walk the other day. When we were preparing for the trip, the tour operators asked us to consider bringing some gifts for the local Raramuri. So we brought a bag full of school supplies - paper, pens, pencils, etc. - and a few sewing kits. Unfortunately, the little scissors in the sewing kits were confiscated by the TSA. Anyway, we met the teacher (I never did get his name), and I presented the gifts:

...after which the kids all chorused "Thank you!", and then said something in their own language. And then Juan told me what to say back to them in their language. I have no idea what I said; I hope I pronounced it correctly.

The rest of the day was primarily spent taking the train back to El Fuerte. While waiting for the train, I saw this unusual vehicle:

...a car fitted with an attachment to allow it to ride on the train tracks. Juan explained that it was a "scout car" - it rides the rails about an hour ahead of the train, and reports any problems it encounters.

Back in El Fuerte, I had a chance to get a picture of something I'd seen earlier in the week:

This train, the Chepito Express, or El Chepito, drives around the streets of El Fuerte every night, playing loud music. We never did get around to riding it.

We ate dinner at a very nice restaurant with interesting wall decor:
